Deathmatch
Deathmatch
As its name suggests, this is a highly lethal game. It has been played in several guises over the years. Its current format is Level One 4e PHB.
Either pick up and play a pre-generated character, or create your own. PHB only, to keep it simple so that no one has to buy extra books, and anyone who knows the game rules can run it whether you are normally a DM or not.
- Kill and/or be killed.
- Every player for themselves.
- Players start in a random (1D4) corner.
- The arena is small enough that there is a good chance of close combat almost from round one. It is symmetrical, so there is no advantage in where you spawn.
- Dying happens instantly at zero points.
- Respawn happens after missing one round.
- Each respawn is an encounter for power purposes.
- Each Game is a day for power purposes.
- If you respawn where there is already a player, that player is "fragged" and dies. You live.
To start the game:
- Player initiative is rolled. (Straight D20 roll, No bonuses)
- Players are seated in initiative order.
- Play proceeds in initiative order.
- Play continues for a set period of time.
- Each kill adds one point
- Each Death deducts one point.
- Kill-stealing is positively encouraged.
Teaming up is allowed, but remember it is an individual game. When it comes to the crunch, your team mate WILL kill you for the win.
